Fireplace Cover Makeover

Another simple makeover I did last night/this morning.

I love my fireplace cover.

I made it from an old window a few years ago. I knocked out the glass and inserted plywood in it's place, then added some "legs" for it to stand. I painted a simple American flag design on it. It's simple and it covers up our unused fireplace.

On the other side I painted it red with a simple star. I was in a hurry to get it done so this is what I came up with at the time. And I was never fond of it and never used this side. So I wanted to spruce it up.

Before state:

And here is is now! I love this quatrefoil design that I have been seeing everywhere lately. I wanted to add a little bit to our living room and thought this was a great place to try it. And if I didn't like it then I could always paint over it. :)

I downloaded the pattern HERE. I just traced and hand painted over my pencil markings. When I was done, I did add some dark walnut stain to make it more aged to match the frame.

I. Love. It.

It's a wonderful attention piece to add to our room.

Wreath $2 from garage sale. Isn't it cute?!

I wanted to share some of my goodies I got from my friend's garage sale this past weekend.

Chair $1
Enamelware 50 cents
Basket 25 cents
Stool 50 cents
Frame 25 cents
Door Free!

I didn't break the bank there!

Now I think my hubby wants me to slow down on these awesome deals. He wants his garage back. It's getting a little full.

I'm off to tackle more on my to-do list! Have a super day!

Tick Tock Makeover

Happy Wednesday! I didn't mean to be gone so long...I hope none of you were worried that I killed over at my race this weekend. LOL

I'm sure it didn't even cross your mind.

Hubby and I had a great time during our run! Hubby got 2nd place in the 5 mile. A very fit 60+ year old man got 1st! I finished my 2 mile in the upper 2nd 1/2 of the group, so I was thankful for that.

Killer hills and RAIN, I'm blaming my "slower" time on! It looked like the rain was letting up as the race started. But as soon as we started to run, it started up again...along with lightning and thunder.

It felt like a scene from the "Wildcats" movie as Goldie Hawn is racing her football team in the rain and guck!

But I survived and we're ready to sign up for another run that will be in February. I'm sure a blizzard will be in the forecast that day. :)

I got some goodies at a couple garage sales this weekend that I need to share with you this week. Lots of projects floating around in this head of mine. I just need a few more hours in the day...don't we all?!

I did a quick makeover on my cute clock I bought at the 400 mile garage sales for $1.

It was cute before but there were some green tarnish areas and the clock didn't work.

I wanted to attempt to take the clock apart without shattering the curved glass (which was my favorite part).

I don't know what this came off off but it isn't a hanging clock because the clock element stuck out in the back. Seems like it was attached to "something" back in the day. But I loved the design, so it was going home with me!

One thing's for sure...they don't make things like they used to. That clock was a bear to disassemble!! It was WELL put together. Too bad it didn't work anymore.

Funny story. It took all my "man power" to get even the hands of the clock off. The hour hand went flying over my head...which I thought. I looked all over for that darn thing. It couldn't of went too far because I was sitting on the couch with a wall behind me. After several minutes of looking, I gave up...when I went to bed, the hour hand was in my bra. Nice, huh? I don't know how I didn't feel that metal thing in my undergarment all day!

Well here is my clock today!

I spray painted it with metal primer, then heirloom white, then added some asphalt glaze to it to make the detail pop!

I also added a new clock part from Hobby Lobby. I was tickled to bring this thing back to life!

I added a simple ribbon for easier hanging.

Don't you love quick and easy makeovers like this? What have you been working on lately?

I have a list of things that I need to work on!

Another Freezer Paper Shirt

Oh my, it is such a BEAUTIFUL day here in my neck of the woods! The weather is PERFECT!

This will be a quick post. My parents will be here soon for supper and to spend the night. My hubby and I are going to be in another race tomorrow morning. I'm just running 2 miles and hubby is running 5 miles. I didn't think I was ready for 5 miles yet...LOL Wish us luck!

My niece turns 8 next week so I made a freezer paper shirt for her. I love how it turned out!! Click HERE for a great tutorial on freezer paper stenciling!

I hand painted the cheerleader. My niece is a girly girl and she loves cheerleading!!

Shirt was half off at Hobby Lobby for $1.50.

I added the classic Peter Pan chapter book ($1-Target). And I just love to wrap gifts in usable items as well. So I found this cool photo box for $2 at Hobby Lobby (again half off!). Add some ribbon and this makes a great gift for less than $5!! I hope she likes it!

Our little town celebration is tomorrow as well. So games, garage sales, food, music and a parade are in store for us tomorrow. How about you? What are your plans this weekend?

Thanks as always for stopping by!

Easy Scrap Wood Pumpkin

Here's an EASY project anyone can make! I got the idea from HERE. I went through our scrap wood pile and found a 2 x 6 scrap piece. I cut it in half to give me 7 inch tall pumpkins. I painted them, sanded the edges, added a glaze (asphalt), let dry...then added a fun ribbon for the stem. Done!

I don't use a typical "orange" color for my crafts. This color is Golden Brown from Apple Barrel paints.

This one is Georgia Clay from Delta Ceramcoat paints.

And to let us know fall is here...some turkeys have been playing in our backyard! Lots of them! This is just a few of the group. Usually there is a dozen or more wandering around. I live on the edge of a small town...we've lived in our house for about 4 years and this is the first time we have seen turkeys. It's fun seeing them mosey on through.

They are pretty smart, too. :)

Hope you are having a great day. It feels like fall here in SE Nebraska!

I'll be back soon!

Treasuring Friendship and....JUNK

2 years ago, my hubby took me and the boys to Minnesota for my 30th birthday gift...our destination was JUNK BONANZA in Medina, Minnesota. We had a great family vacation while in the area. Junk Bonanza was a GREAT time! It poured while we were there. So my family was a muddy mess but it was well worth it. Booths and booths of wonderful JUNK!

One of the highlights was meeting Joan Steffand from HGTV Decorating Cents! I sure miss that show.

I laugh at this picture because I look so pale next to Joan. LOL

FYI: Joan is super sweet in person!

If you haven't heard of Junk Bonanza or would like to see what it's like. Check out this fun video clip!

The last 2 Bonanza's have been in Shakopee, Minnesota. Coincidentally just across the road where our Motel was located when we vacationed out there. Oh, how I wish it was a little closer and bring some girlfriends with me. :) Maybe someday.

So with Junk on my mind, 2 girlfriends and I, headed to the Hwy 36 Treasure Hunt in Kansas this Saturday! If I can't go to Minnesota then I'm heading to Kansas. The state line is probably 45 minutes from my home so we didn't have to drive too far.

My hubby offered to watch the boys and invite some friends to go garage saling. My hubby loves garage sales just as much as I do so this was a wonderful gift he gave me to give up his seat. LOL Thank you, sweets!! Love you!!

I took 2 special gals in my life, Julie and Carey. I am truly blessed to have them in my life. Our kids are the same ages as well so it's nice to have such wonderful families in my life as well.

Well I'm kind of embarrassed to say that we didn't make it too far down Hwy 36. It took us all day to do one town and down the hwy about 15 miles. But we still found wonderful treasures!! And I'll share in a moment, my stash.

The girls and I ate at Penny's Diner in Marysville, KS for lunch. It was a fun place to enjoy a great burger and fries!!

Me, Julie

A group photo of us from the side of the diner's shiny exterior.

After lunch we felt charged up again and headed out down the road.

Here is just a peak at what we saw.

Really, can a person have too many jars?!! I don't know what it is about them...I could of took these all home.

Some great junk.

And some interesting stuff make from junk...

Old fans have really caught my eye lately.

Crocks, jugs and bowls...aaaahhhh, I'm in love.

See the crock in the back with the blue flowers?!! I have the same one, my mom gave me for one of my  birthdays. I'm sure she bought it for less than $5. Well that one below was $48!

Here's the back of the car with just part of our treasures at the end of the day. Really, I had the energy to keep on going...just not enough time. I hope I can twist my girlfriends' arms for another trip next year. I don't think I will have to do too much convincing. :)

Here are my fun finds from Saturday. Along with these, I bought some clothes and other little things for my hubby and boys. I was so proud, I didn't spend over $1 on anything I bought. And I had a good load!

I'll show you around and give you better peak!

Wreath-25 cents
Small bowl-25 cents
Medium bowl-50 cents
Large bowl-75 cents
Dish with Lid (probably one my favorite finds)-50 cents
 Big piece of fabric-40 cents

Small plate-50 cents
I love the detail around the rim.

The clock doesn't work, but I'm hoping to get it going again with a new clock kit. This is another favorite!

I bought a few frames to paint up. This one is OLD. Only 25 cents! And a great size!

Turkey Platter-$1
I don't have much for Thanksgiving decor. So I love this find!

Cornucopia basket-25 cents
Metal frame-25 cents
Plates-25 cents each

Basket-50 cents

Vintage frame-25 cents

Vintage tin boxes-Free Box!

It's old but has 2 large cracks in the glass picture.

My hubby loves deer...I'm sure he will cringe when/if I bust the picture out. But I really just wanted the frame. I love the detail!

Now I got to clean some of this stuff up and find some new homes for them.

So how was your weekend?

Thanks for you visit and comments. I enjoy each and everyone of you!

Great Week!

Happy Friday!

I hope you all had a great week! I put on some jeans this morning and it feels so good on this cool Fall day. I just love this time of year. The leaves are starting to change to their awesome fall colors. I have a leaf project I want to do so I'm on the lookout for some vibrant leaves. :)

I had a great week!

CSN Stores contacted me again and asked me to do a review on one of their products. I was like Yeah! count me in! CSN Stores has over 200 online stores where you can find everything from cheap bedroom furniture to fantastic fitness equipment to cookware! I have my eye on several items so this will be hard just to choose one thing! One of my favorite features is the free shipping on most of their items! I'll keep you posted on what I get!

This week I found out I will be a monthly guest blogger over at one of my FAVORITE Money Saving Blogs!

Really, I have saved so much $$$ through this site! I'll be sharing my ways to decorate on a budget! My first post is scheduled for this Monday! I'm so excited. Be sure to check out Chicks Dig Deals!

Tomorrow I am heading out with 2 great friends to Highway 36 Treasure Hunt!

Hwy 36 is in Kansas...400 miles stretching from Missouri to Colorado. There will be garage sales the whole way! I wish I had the time and the $$$ and a big trailer to tackle 400 miles. LOL We are just doing 2 towns and the country side. Believe me, this will take all day. I can't wait!

Just for a taste. Here is just 1 garage sale in Washington, KS!! It's the fireman sale. We hit this one up last year and it was full of goodies!

I'm bringing the camera and I'll hopefully share some great finds with you next week!

So what are you up to this weekend?
